The PPP and MQM declared a truce in Karachi, in what is a truly heartening sign of our leaders putting people over politics.
Interior Minister Rehman Malik was joined by Sindh Governor Dr. Ishratul Ebad Khan, Chief Minister Syed Qaim Ali, MQM Coordination COmmittee Deputy Dr. Farooq Sattar and other leaders of both parties at the Governor House.
At the press conference, Mr. Malik declared neither party would speak negatively of the other, and would instead focus solely on brining peace and prosperity to Karachi and the rest of the nation.
Both parties took the opportunity to emphasize their commitment to resolving the deteriorating law and order situation in Karachi.
We must all applaud the bi-partisan approach to stability. Furthermore, we as a nation should encourage similar actions from other political leaders. The fact remains Pakistan has to deal with a myriad of complex issues that require unity and cohesion. The problems Pakistan faces can be overcome when we stand united against poverty and violence. What we are seeing with the PPP and MQM is truly inspiring because it is evidence of our national spirit’s determination.
