BREAKING: US TO GIVE PAKISTAN $1BILLION FOR ENERGY

he United States will give Pakistan$1 billion for six energy sector projects over the next four years to meet energy shortages, a U.S. official said Wednesday.

The projects include upgradation of the Jamshoro thermal power station in Sindh and the Muzaffarabad power station in Punjab province, Richard C. Holbrooke, U.S. special representative for Pakistan and Afghanistan, said after signing an agreement for the projects.

The U.S. will give also $16 million to boost capacity of the Tarbela Dam hydroelectric plant. This is part of a $125 million program announced in October by U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton aimed at increasing electricity output and improving energy efficiency in the country, Holbrooke added.
